‘The Fig Tree’ piano solo was inspired by Elif Shafak’s beautiful novel ‘The Island of Missing Trees’.

The novel explores love, grief, war and the tenuous survival of family connections – partly narrated by an enchanting fig tree uprooted from Cyprus and replanted in North London.
Elif Shafak dedicates her novel:
“To immigrants and exiles everywhere,
the uprooted, the re-rooted, the rootless,
And to the trees left behind,
rooted in our memories…..”
Like the book my music reflects the themes of identity, love and loss.
‘The Fig Tree’ is track 4 from my new album ‘Somewhere Between Light and Sound’.
